Programming year 2021

Overview:

  • During the Programming Year 2021, Shar for Development implemented several projects in support of different international donors, and in coordination with the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria.
  • The interventions targeted vulnerable local communities prioritizing the marginalized groups, mainly female participants.
  • The intervention was based on the communities’ needs concluded from field assessments and collected feedbacks.

Implemented Projects in 2021:

 

  • Strengthen the Relationship and Mutual Participation between the CSOs and the Communities / People in Public Life (ŞIYAN 3)

Through ŞIYAN Project we worked on promoting community participation and contribution to the public life by providing solutions and working directly with decision-makers.

Female participants were actively present and contributing to achieving the outcomes of the project during all the conducted activities.

Main activities

  • Publishing articles in Shar Magazine, related to public affairs, politics, economics, culture, and society.
  • Psychosocial support sessions for workers in the COVID-19 pandemic response teams in the health sector.
  • Online discussion sessions for opinions concerning the public affairs that is resulting in recommendations by activists, official, researcher and journalist attendees from North and East Syria and abroad

  • Promote Productivity of Livestock

The project aimed to support livestock productivity to enhance food security by improving dairy products, protecting farmlands, and enhancing income generation.

Shar for Development applied comprehensive criteria for the selection of project beneficiaries, focusing on Female participants inclusion.

Main activities

  • Treating the participants on preventing the livestock from pox, internal and external parasitic worms, which include flatworms, tapeworms, and roundworms that affect the quantity and quality of dairy products, wool, and meat.
  • Distributing fodder and bran for each participant to enable their livestock to resume production of milk to normal capacity levels.
  • Providing the target beneficiaries with basic dairy production inputs.
  • Assisting the participants in cultivating 300 dunums with alfalfa for a combined 150 livestock breeders through provision of seeds, essential fertilizers, and tilling services to enable livestock breeders to sustain their livelihood and consistently supply local markets with dairy products, meats, and wools.

 

  • Supporting the Productivity of Wheat Cultivation

The project aimed to promote food security through support productivity of the wheat cultivation along with promote the technical knowledge of farmers in Kisreh sub-district.

Shar for Development applied comprehensive criteria for the selection of project beneficiaries, focusing on Female participants inclusion. 

Main activities

  • Providing herbicide spraying services for 16,000 dunums.
  • Distribution of balanced fertilizer and high nitrogen for 16,000 dunums.
  • Providing amino acids spraying services for 16,000 dunums.
  • Providing on-site consultation that will cover the topics outlined in scope of the project.

 

  • Improved Food Security and Livelihood (ZEVÎ 5)

The project aimed to improve livelihoods and achieve food security for vulnerable families in the targeted areas, achieve livelihood and food security stability, and provide a nutritious intake of food for the vulnerable households, as well as to provide humanitarian assistance and early recovery initiatives.

The selection criteria focused on the most in need and vulnerable people, including widows, PWDs, female-headed households.

Main activities

  • Providing wheat seeds and fertilizers enough for the cultivation of 20 dunums along with agriculture extension services and capacity building training on modern farming techniques, water management, pest control and use of smart climate technology.
  • Providing temporary income opportunities to 100 vulnerable men and women through cash-for-work, primarily in the communities where the project will also implement.
  • Supporting 100 of the most vulnerable and in need households (small livestock breeders) with barely hydroponic support package (materials and tools needed for barely hydroponic along with the training). As well as training on livestock farming best practices, rearing techniques, and hydroponic technology to produce livestock fodder, organic fertilizer production.
  • Training at least 200 persons on livelihood strategies, early warning systems, and disaster preparedness measures.

 

  • Contributing to Social Cohesion and Inclusive Development in North and East Syria

Through the project, Shar for Development worked on increasing feelings of empowerment among youth to engage with administration stakeholders and improving the communication between them and the local administration stakeholders.

Main activities

  • Conducting relationship-building activities among diverse youth participants to nurture relationships among them
  • Convene dialogue sessions among youth participants to identify common interests and demands.
  • Train youth on their civic rights and duties.
  • Implementing Youth-led Social Cohesion Initiatives.
  • Conduct discussion sessions with local administration officials to prepare them for engagement with youth.
  • Train youth and local administration officials on communication skills.
  • Convene dialogue sessions between youth and local administration officials.

 

Summary

Shar for Development recognizes the important role of female componont in the development of the communities and thus societyies, and the sustainability of the achieved development.

We prioritize reaching out to and including female in all our project phases starting from design and including the implementation and follow up.
